Cookbooks: A market growing

Let the kitchen sing

Let the kitchen sing

Some people view cooking as cumbersome, intimadating, and a lost art. However, food always commands a central role and event in our lives. We grapple with what to eat, when toy eat, how to eat healthy. Grocercies. Enough people still love great food.

Throughout the ages cookbooks, or Mom’a recipes have garnered a ritual delight. Some longed for the faraway lands secrets. Others wanted to collect the grandmothers secrets. Me? I am more basic. I want to read and see how foods work together. Plus I love the pictures. My 80 year old friend loves best going to her cookbooks, old or new, and cooking. Cooking keeps her a little more involved in her life. When she loses interest, her health and mood drop a notch.

I did a quick experience as shown above by searching new cookbooks on youtube. As I expected, cookbooks are still the talk of many. A few years ago (4), cookbooks were the FASTEST growing “niche” market in publishing. Other media alos support this by often making a big fuss about cooking through shows and news. They also feature cookbooks.

If you like fast assignments, a change of pace, or another way to boost your passion about….write a cookbook! It may be easily publishable. It may open a new door for several books, and can tell your story in a new light. It might even prove to be fun! If you could produce a cookbook in one year, and earn a decent amount, then you’d have considerable time to fund your other writing projects.

Make a list of topics, do the research and assemble. Remember cookbooks come in all sizes. They may be promtoed by other media outlets which could get you considerable exposure. They can be short. You can use them for fundraisers. They can be topic oriented. Colonials in India often shared….recipes. Africans today love…lace it with the stories of the people and times. 20 favorite recipes and stories shared by environmentalists while camping. Put your words to work for you and others.

Three writers Interviewed:

Toni Morrison

I don’t often have time to listen to what the writers were considering. Have you? In this blog I will include three writers. I ask you first to listen. Second I ask you to make a list of 50 questions. Maybe 10 comments. If you are on this site, you probably interested in writing, and writers. Perhaps you are a writer or a publisher. Consider what these writers are saying.

Now you have an excellent workbook for yourself. First, ask yourself the same questions. Can you apply your answers to your work? Can you expand your themes and visions? Can you creat a few articles to publilsh? Or will you finally carve out some time for yourself to enact your ideas.

Of course you could simply package these ideas and your workbook as a new IM product. Or you could challenge yourself to achieve a greater depth in your work.
Relax and have some fun with this. Great lesson plans for your students.

Once you have completed this assignment, please write me. Share your ideas in the comments section. Perhaps make a youtube video. If you have some writing you would like to share with my readers, please send it to me. I may publish it for you.

Start by listening here, and then continue to listen to your story.

Here is a wide variation of interviews and discussions about the authors works. Please take some time to consider these discussions. Taslk with friends. Share. Copy and use. And always, let me know what you think. Visit often.

Be Bold: Create new jobs in journalism

Opportunity: Ready and waiting for you

Opportunity: Ready and waiting for you

Bloggers and the NEWS.

Many of you may have realized that traditional media formats are reducing their reporters. This can be very scary for veterans, and rather frightening for in students studying journalism. Writers continually face these dilemas.

Don’t run and hide! Organize.

1) New papers, yes print papers are being started in small towns and cities everywhere. Plan to create your own. Start small and build fast. If you are online a lot, you have often heard the word: niche. Choose platforms that you are crazy about: start a newspaper, or small magazine on that topic. The new heros won’t only be the brave journalists covering the world, they will be writers who create markets for their passions. Funny dog stories? Why not?

2) Blog, submit articles and sign up for online magazines. Get all the information that you can find about these topics.

3) Who will advertise? Your competition will be all the free papers that run by having advertisers. Who are your target readers? What local businesses serve those people. Visit: www.highdesertdog.com for ideas. Not from NM? Good here’s an idea to copy.

4) Check out the competition. Your love is music. See if there is an idea that isn’t covered locally where you could become the expert, and have the best stories. Many small papers also publish online and invite readers to blog, and have lots of space to invite advertisers. Visit: www.alibi.com.

5) Start now, as soon as possible. The first few years may be tough. They fly by fast. Suddenly, in three years you are making decent money. You come up with another idea…repeat the above. In 5 years you may have 3-5 publications.

If you were a freshman in college, you are one year out of school and considering selling off 2 publications so that you can start your newest dream…these things happen with you or without you. I’ve been in town for 15 years. Some of those small papers have won journalism awards, have been sold and bought four times, and are boasting a 20 year or more anniversary.

The market can continue to expand. Be bold. Be part of it. Online and off line.

Sort of related. Connect dots. Create stories.

If you would like to publish an article here, please send me a comment.
Have fun, be bold!

Screenwriters talk

“If you have a story, just write it…” Nia…

Yes you can go to school, workshops, etc. Education is great. However if you listen to these videos, you may discover your original thought may carry you beyond your expectations. Imagine, courageous people building their own stories and are path blazers.

The great screen may become tiny, ie the TV show from local to national. Let yourself explore the world and harvest the ideas that you encounter. I heard the number it takes 120 pages for the average screenplay, so start writing. Your words are the prescription for success and directions for the actors. Perhaps, they are calling your name. Write.

Screenwriting: It’s oscars night! or was…

Confessions: I know very little about screenwriters, or screenwriting. Before you start, you might try reading scripts and make notes about what you like. I do know that people who work with others, networking, workshops, and concentrated effort: people do get their work published. What does it take? Look at the bios of some of the best. Also go to www.wrtiersinthesky.com for more tips.

I am curious what you thought of the Oscars tonight? Have you seen the films? One film that really impressed me with the screenplay was Doubt with Meryl Streep. One liners throughout: rather simple but poignant and provided amazing foreshadowing. Leave comments and tips please.

If you have the talent, can write, and the imagination: then pursue the dream. Look at all the films being produced: they each have screenwriters. Hard working people whom never relented, and somehow reached their iniatial goal. Some have repeated their success often.

Hi Everyone,
I am sending this link as some of you asked how the “Intimacy Contest” turned out. It was really a very amazing experience and the comments that came in were off the charts in their beauty. I condensed all the comments from my readers and made them into a video slideshow with photos and music. Doing this contest made me realize once again how many truly amazing people there are in the world. People with good compassionate hearts. Very wise souls who care.

Here is the link: http://nakedineden.com/nakedinedenblog/?p=1144

Enjoy…

Love,

What is Intimacy?
Posted by Robin Easton under: Hobnobbin’ with Robin .

WHAT IS INTIMACY?
“A compilation of your intimate thoughts, insights and experiences.”
(IF THE VIDEO IS BUFFERING: You can hit pause and wait for it to fully load while you read the text, and then come back and watch it. That way you won’t watch it in “starts and stops”. Enjoy, Robin.)

My beautiful friends, This “Intimacy Contest” was deeply moving for me. I felt touched by the Creator while reading your comments…and responding to them. I’ve had an enormous work load lately and had almost no time for blogging. Yet, I felt tremendously connected to you, far beyond the ethers of the internet. I read all your comments to my sweetheart. He was “stilled” by your beauty. It’s as if on a soul level — all of you have been with me this last week, supporting me and instilling Life into me.

I’ve created a slide show using the comments of people who wrote specifically about intimacy. It is my heartfelt gift to you. I hope you experience the beauty I experience in you. I’ve only used your avatar name or first name. I had to edit many comments and condense sentences to a line or two as there were so many. The rest of you that left other types of comments deeply touched me by your richly kind and supportive words.

The music to this video is a song titled, Rainforest Mist. The original song has words and is played on a piano. But for this video I wanted something more intimate so I hummed the song. There is no piano and no words. To me humming — with no instrumentals — left me feeling vulnerable. I think to fully embrace intimacy we must allow ourselves to experience vulnerability, heart to heart and soul to soul. So in humming this song I share my soul. While doing this slide show I felt overwhelming love for you all. You are each unique and infinitely beautiful. I’m honored to know you.

NOW, for the winner! I typed out the names of everyone who left a comment and then cut them, folded each name in half and put them into my Australian “Snowy River” hat. Then I mixed them all up, set the hat on my piano keys, sat on the floor — so I couldn’t see — and then picked a name. My heart was POUNDING. I was a wreck!! “How do people do this?” Especially when you love all the people in the hat. My sweetheart called right after I drew the winner and asked, “Are you okay? You sound a bit shaky or breathless.” When I told him I’d just drawn the winner, he laughed and said, “Yeah, that must be hard.”

So, the winner is EDDIE of THE CLIFF WALK eddie (who spells his name with a small e) is a highly unique and creative photographer. He forever delights me with how he sees the world…and WHAT he sees in the world. If you’ve not met him, go explore his site - THE CLIFF WALK. You won’t regret it. Congratulations eddie! You are the proud owner of a new t-shirt! (chuckles).

I thank you all for sharing a part of yourselves with me. I find myself profoundly honored and moved by your souls. I will have more contests and surprises coming down the road. So stay tuned my dear dear friends. I hope to visit you soon.

Love,
Robin

Light always abounds within us: celebrate! photo by Mary MacIntyre

I’ve had a very busy week. So this will be a fast(?) update. Remember I am still always looking for writers who would like to publish here. As A writer there are always deadlines. Fortunately, I am in a productive moment in my life. However, sometimes people need tips to help them get work done before deadlines. The following may be self evident, however try them:
1) Grab a folder and start writing notes at the first notice of an assignment and deadline. Perhaps even use a recorder for ideas. Add stuff to folder.
2) Create a specific time reserved for writing. Use that time frequently so you are accustomed to letting words flow. Aren’t ready to work on that assignment? Write on other ideas for future material.
3) Research and make it fun. Remember that going to your local library may break a block and you could quickly find more resources in a lovely quiet environment.
4) Reset the deadline for a week earlier with a bonus if you finish by that time. This gives you time to review and rewrite.

Fun? Hope you love to write. Look at all the curious material recently posted on: www.albuquerquelive.today.com yep it is by me.

Need some ideas for other articles? Visit www.lifetipsdaily.com
I give you permission to use my work. PLease give me credit, or do a complete rewrite/expansion of a concept.

Remember to visit www.writersinthesky.com

Need a vacation that could open a few doors and help you move ahead? There’s many pages about writer’s workshops in youtube. This could be all you need to get those juices flowing while networking as well. Plan ahead now! Enjoy.
