Most performers scoff when they are asked this simple question:

“Do you have a performing business
or a performing hobby?”

The answer is usually a vociferous - “I have a Performing Business!” Then, typically, this response is followed by a verbal laundry list of workshops they have taken, classes they are involved with, the new headshots they just duplicated, etc. READ ARTICLE HERE

Desert,arroy, sand bright

Desert,arroy, sand bright

http://www.lifetipsdaily.com/

2 Steps off the Path. Maybe this walk will evolve into a phot book. I walked today without purpose just to walk and enjoy. I carried my camera. I slowed down and saw what most would never see. I met a few birds, and had a mountain blue jay laugh at me. Winter, late afternoon. Air crisp. WInd gentle but cold. My eyes opened. I walked.
First I wandered down the arroyo. Well after I took a short swing in the air melting adulthood to dizzy rushes of childhood. The toddler was worried that I might be going faster, and her Mother pushed harder. Her voice carried long in the wind with spontaneous glee.

I enjoyed the soft sand under my feet, soft, earht carrying me as if I belonged here exploring treats she offered me. Juniper, sage, chamisa. QUiet, mystical calling me on. I walked forth until the barb wire fence indicated that I change direction. The photos were OK sharpening my perceptions

Three months ago my pain prohibitied me from traveling with such ease. I walk again with confidence and joy. I could take my time and not feel apprehensive.

On the way home I listened to poets read Walt Whitman. Verse transforms with oration. Another blessing. Then I heard a discusssion about MAlcom X. How he called each to become the BEst within themselves. How he reckoned with imperfection, and being a human with integrity. The words were far more majestic than mine here.

Light always abounds within us: celebrate! photo by Mary MacIntyre

Gee I took that picture when spring air was just beginning to fill the sky. Promise of warm, vitality sprouting, enrgy surging. Soon, I promise soon!

Right now I am listening to Beethoven’s 5th Sonata…what a wondrous way to awaken a winter’s night. Life contains far more than we might remember. Praise…hear the violins? No so go to youtube…better yet:

Listen while you read. Stories will pour forth unto your imagination. Take notes.

Back to the blog. On my way out of work (Organic Health Food Store),
I noticed a new Magazine: High Dessert Dog www.highdesertdog.com
A brand new magazine with a good deal of advertising! Let’s look at what this woman has done. Economic downturn becomes a passionate upturn. Did your Mother ever say turn that frown upside down? Got it.

It is a targeted niche and very profitable market. Everyone is going to feed their dog, well almost everyone. With more seniors than ever, you’ll have all the old ladies and gents wanting to fuss MORE over their beloved pets.

More businesses than ever will be started in the next 5 years. In the early 80’s in a previous Bush recession, whilst Microsoft was but a fledgling business, publishing was the fastest growing and profitable industry around. What did these publishers do? They made a lot of money fast, and then sold their magazines to bigger publishers and then worked for the new owners. Call to all writers, this is a terrific time to thrive. Whether it is print, online, or a newsletter: the market calls to you. People need information, inspiration, and good news. Come story tellers, and weave your magic.

Consider that Obama won due to his elegent, and bold rhetoric. His oratory power created a swell within all age groups. Use your imagination and write write write.

PS: They are applauding my talk. Youtube can make a good night. By the way on www.lifetipsdaily.com I mentioned a new website to me, where you can get a lot of gifts, exercises, and a dose of inspiration. I let them know that I blogged about them, and they invited me to write for them. I’ll do so later. Please go visit them…yes go to my other blog. Who knows? Your talent may be needed.

Copywriting, Newsletters, and Extra (f.r.ee) Value

C'mon join the fun!

C'mon join the fun!

In a hurry? Russell Carter has a no cost offer for you, scroll down to bottom of blog.

A long long time ago, I did a career change and sold, albiet briefly radio advertising. One of my job responsibilities included copywriting.
I quickly learned the spoken word capsulized in 30-60 seconds was very different than any writing I had previously done. Still I was young, enthusiastic and knew no limitations! Within 2 weeks I learned to write radio ads.

On the internet copywriting takes a different twist and marketers claim to know many secrets. Still a creative sort might at any time change the whole game if they found another model that works.

Whether people use templates, create professional sites, or devise new selling concepts with high conversion rates: copywriting still moves product and a good copywriter can command decent dollars for their work. So when in need, you writers out there need to remember that there are many ways to earn bread and butter.

Newsletters also come in a variety of styles. I love the ones with real information, or beautiful style. These are rare nowadays. Most of the newsletters are simple direct sales copy. I read many every week to gleam news about marketing, and see if there are products that would help me work more productively. I may also soon be hired to write a few newsletters for different clients, so I am renewing my personal exploration of newsletter witing.

My summary tips would be: choose what you want to do online and study like crazy. Get as much as you can for free, pay for products when you have cash, and make an action plan as soon as possible. Even if idea #1,2,3 gets postponed for some reason, you will have the resources to review when needed.

Russell Carter probably caught my attention during a giveaway. I don’t even remember what I downloaded. I bet it was something about blogging. His emails come frequently. He loves low prices, and he creates lots of packages. He doesn’t have to talk much. His ofers are exceptional.

My budget often doesn’t exist, yet when it does I buy. In fact, I have spent more money with him than any other marketer! Why because 1) he usually answers emails. He would do more if I asked. 2) He offers packages that I often am very interested in. 3) He makes offers that keep pace with the markets, and he suggests alternatives to what everyone else is selling, just in case his readers don’t have hundreds of dollars to spend today. 4) He gives away good packages too.
I asked Russell Carter if I can share this link with you and he said, “Yes, sounds great!” Trial one: let’s see if this works.

Paul Penton and writing…

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

Paul Penton was kind enough to stop by and let me know of another writing site. So I copied a bit and here comes: www.objectwriting.com :)

Clashing metaphors
A metaphor is “something used, or regarded as being used, to represent something else”… so pick a word and set your clock for 5 minutes [it might not take that long] and use the 5 senses, for example a license plate tastes like a….. dentists drill! See where it goes. Stuck for a word? Try the Random Word Generator at coyotecult.com

Another enjoyable old fashioned practise: Choose the Right Word S.I. Hayalawa, which a friend gave me. Sleep does overcome me now, or tries hard to and hey, it’s only 12:19 AM.
I originally was going to write about the writer’s response to a blank page. I was loading up this site without a clue what to write. So of course a blank page was what I’d face. In a way it’s what everyone faces every day. Will we take time to notice? Will we take time to really look in our mirror? Or will we let motions of everyday living fill in the blanks?

Our blank page provides the opportunity to choose: can today becopme a masterpiece? A time to experience or invite inner peace? A time for action to get others to join together for peace? Will a thoughtful poem emerge to pull heart strings, or will the unexpected fill heart with joy? Your choice fill in the blanks, and don’t let the cat sit too close to the keyboard.

And just at that moment, when I half contemplated what to write, I noticed that Paul Penton left a comment. My mind started turning. Do go visit his site as you can find plenty of writing ideas for all occassions!

Look where others pass by, and riches will be yours

Look where others pass by, and riches will be yours

As a writer I am always inquistive. I subscribe to multiple newsletters to keep abreast with areas of interest. I love Twitter because I can read and communicate with people from all over the world with very different perspectives. It’s a bit like being a detective.

Have you ever wandered into an old bookstore, or thrift store and found a book by an author you never heard of, and discovered a power filled edition that helped you re-assess your present situation? All this wisdom often is passed by without a second thought.

At one bookstore, I love to go to their 2 books for $1 because I have found incredible authors I never heard of. Stories beyond my normal imagination. They are on these shelves because others didn’t know them either. Treasures for fifty cents!

Well, the following is such a great find. Once a week he sends a book. This publisher brings you old words, with big concepts. I haven’t read them all, but when I do there’s always good news. I am publshing this so you can meet him, and perhaps signup for your own treasure nest. www.mymillionairebuddy.com

There’s a larger story behind this. He is a tremendous marketer. Also notice the not hard sale. Do I pay attention when he sends me other emails, yes. also he has built a business around copyrights not renewed. Consider also the power of public domain material.

Hear the speaking of the Tree: Maya Angelou

I’m doing things a bit backwards, and I idealistically hope you watched the videos first. What if we bruied, ignored, or did not use “word”. As we are constantly burdened with massive information streams, audio, and video, commercals, media, and cell phone chatter, do we often get time to stop eeither to listen or develop words?

I felt like buying some books today. Rather irrational since I have stacks and stacks of unread books already. What is worse are the millions of citizens who never stop long enough to read! I am always impressed by the staff at work from multiple backgrounds who read often. The newspaper is always hot material in our break room. Do you read often? DO your friends?

As you already know, February is “Black History Month”. I’ve been around awhile, and still find myself rather ignorant about writers and stories. I’ve even read a lot about and by African American writers, yet in two minutes, I found 2 people that I have never heard about.

So, if you are inclined, browse around some, and see who you can discover, and what you can learn this month. African American history, is our history too. We share this country. We share to good and bad that has gone by and still lingers on. Open a door and your heart to subjects unexplored. Perhaps we can discover new ways of seeing, new sounds of living, new thoughts to deepen our lives.

Celebration comes easily, justice yearns for equity, poems fill our soul, and understanding reaches over lifetimes. Come now and enjoy the rich vibrant textures of the words.

It is time now to write.

Writers: Poems, Places, and Memories Part1

My buffalo day

My buffalo day

If you check around my sites you can see theme for Sunday Superbowl blogs by me. It’s a quiet time to reflect on my living and blessings. However we are going back east to a place called Wellfleet.
This was related blog to others I looked at today. Enjoy. I’ll write more in a minute.

and from down the road:

I once many years ago travelled with a friend and attended a social such as this by the elders of these folks. Song is poem. Drums let heart speak.

How many memories we have lost, the long winding walk along the tip of the cape. We felt cold November wind rise on a return. Never again could I lightly say, just around the bend, for the kept continuing and we wre very weary upon the magical time with ocean, sand, and sore feet.

I do encourage you to take time to listen and watch these videos. Much story is lost by being in a rush, and walking fast. History too has been forgotten whether personal, local, or cultural. These videos remind us of the power and dynamic expressions of earth and human voice.

Have you ever heard of this tribe or Wellfleet? Could you visit and create a travel article? Check out my coachingcooking blog for some related recipes. Are you curious more about the history of these people? Could this make a great school report? Be creative with these ideas and write.
