Missed getting this online early enough. However it reminded me of the deep and perplexing work that Ms. Proulx has accomplished. So let’s get some extra information below. I checked out some biographical information and found there are still more books by Aniie Proulx for me to read! Thus I am posting a second blog on her works. I was startled not to find more yourube videos about her.

Some how haven’t read her books yet? The psychological character development and excellent regional settings creates a profound narrative.

Sixty Water Weaving Women at La Orilla Canal
This ritual performance place the afternoon of the Summer Solstice is intended to express and encourage gratitude and awareness of the water source that flows through the city - a constant presence to a life force that is rarely noticed. The performance will take place on the west side of the canal. Inspired by the tradition of women as water bearers, each woman carried her own pitcher in the ritual as a symbol of her personal commitment to guard and conserve this precious resource. The combined waters carried by these 60 women represent the collective impact of their individual commitment.

First a short review.
A New Herbal Classic, July 30, 2001
By A Customer

Tolley and Mead have done it again. With stunningly beautiful photos and to-the-point text, the wonderful world of herbs is explored in a new way. Many people don’t fully appreciate the value of herbal flowers, but Tolley and Mead show that they can indeed stand on their own. They explore picking, conditioning, drying, growing, and arranging, as well as some unique craft ideas. For anyone into herbs, this is a must read. Another herbal masterpiece

Susan Boyle: winner of our hearts

Saturday, May 30th, 2009
Write,write,write, and leave me a comment,please.

Write,write,write, and leave me a comment,please.

I haven’t kept up with all the media on Susan Boyle. I did have to see the outcome of the contest. I also love the lyrics of Memory, but could not get the video here.

I am writing tonight about her because she opens the door to believing our dreams are worthy of a valiant pursuit. Some will say she did not win, and so it may seem. Let’s look at the transformation. We can sit at home. WE can wish. WE can get up and go about the steps. We can confront our fears and limitations. We can stride forward.

If we fall short so what? Look at how far she has come! If we went just a short way, our lives can really change, and often for the better. Often our days are tough and perhaps darken our spirits. Look, one does not HAVE to give in. One does not have to give up.
If we do not meet that dream, we have lifted our hearts and minds.

I applaud Susan Boyle for her courage, brillance, and wonderful voice. We all carry our version of our voice to be expressed in ur personal way. Walk with confidence, joy, and purpose and let your crativity blossom. Make you feel like writing doesn’t it? Well do it! Send me examples and I will share them.

Do enjoy and congratulations on your dreams!

Hopefully this is not a repeat. If it is, my apologies. The National Latino Writing COnference has many talented writers and faculty prepared to discuss important information and issues regarding publishing and writing for Latinos. I hope many educators also attend to learn more about their potential students. True writers never attend school and learn along the way to find their voice and style.

Don’t miss this packed full of information event. If you can’t attend, connect with faculty to see if videos and transcripts will be available.

Look where others pass by, and riches will be yours

Look where others pass by, and riches will be yours

This fine video can provide much insight for you as a writer. Actually as I love Canada, someday I may even read this mystery. Writing always challenges the writer. Penney mentions that sometimes imagination provides greater results than the research. I prefer knowing the landscape, cultures, so that I might visualize the richness of place as a landscape painter might. At that point my questions gallop forth to the adventture that emerges from place and feeling.

Everyone has their own method to get the work started. Once begun the process unfolds as mystically as the historical elements you seek to capture. Perhaps writing also creates a game of hide and seek. The characters give you glimpses of who they are and what will unravel as you move into their territory and mindset.

Characters too can take on a life of their own helping you can experience about their relationships to nature, otehr people, and even props. Your success rests on their development and believeability. Unfortunately the writer has greater competition than ever with all the elctronic media that makes a story easy to consume.

Alas sculpting with words provides better for exercise for each brain willing to engage in the adventure. May your words compel the reader to walk alongside you and drink of the magical word…

Mary Higgins Clark and Carol Higgins Clark

Who is your favorite mystery writer? What makes their work pull you in and keep you reading? I seldom read mysteries. However several of my best friends consume mysteries faster than TV shows. Well almost as fast. What makes her writing blast tothe top of charts? What makes her tick? Her memoir Kitchen Privleges may provide a few clues. Also if you go to her webiste, you could check out the forum and see what people are talking about. Leave a comment or question and see who responds! http://authors.simonandschuster.com/Mary-Higgins-Clark/1079642/biography

Read more about her succesful life. Also choose other writers to research and find ways to improve your own writing career.

Mary Higgins Clark was chosen by Mystery Writers of America as Grand Master of the 2000 Edgar Awards. An annual Mary Higgins Clark Award sponsored by Simon & Schuster, to be given to authors of suspense fiction writing in the Mary Higgins Clark tradition, was launched by Mystery Writers of America during Edgars week in April 2001. She was the 1987 president of Mystery Writers of America and, for many years, served on their Board of Directors. In May 1988, she was Chairman of the International Crime Congress.

May your adventure be bold! Wrie and enjoy.

Benito’s Sopaipillas / Las sopaipillas de Benito
by Ana Baca, Anthony Accardo(Illustrator), Carolina Villarroel (Spanish Translator)

ISBN: 1558853707
Price: $15.95
Published: April 30, 2007

This tantalizing bilingual picture book for children shares the magical history of a favorite treat

Everyone loves the taste of the puffed pillows of fried bread known as sopaipillas, whether they’re drizzled with honey or sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar. But most people, young Cristina included, don’t know about this Southwestern treat’s magical origins, or how it got its name.

One hot summer morning, Cristina’s abuelita promises to teach her how to make the tasty fried bread and explain how she knows that making sopaipillas will bring rain! Long ago, Cristina’s great-grandfather Benito was desperate. His crops were dying because it hadn’t rained for months. One day, exhausted and weak from working the fields, Benito watched in amazement as a scarecrow came to life and begged him to help bring rain. The worried scarecrow claimed to know how. But could a scarecrow—and pieces of dough— really bring rain to the dry and dusty fields? Could Benito really save everyone’s crops?

And so Benito—and many years later his great-granddaughter Cristina—learned about the pillows of bread known as “soup catchers” that, like clouds, catch rain drops and bring them down to earth.

Benito’s Sopaipillas / Las sopaipillas de Benito is a magical bilingual picture book for children aged 3-7 that celebrates a delicious staple of Southwestern cuisine. And for those children who want to test the magic of the sopaipillas, a recipe is included in English and Spanish.

ANA BACA, a native of Albuquerque, New Mexico, is the author of Benito’s Bizcochitos / Los bizcochitos de Benito (Piñata Books, 1999) and Chiles for Benito / Chiles para Benito (Piñata Books, 2003) .She graduated from Stanford University (B.A.) and the University of New Mexico (M.A.) with degrees in English Literature. She currently lives and works in New Mexico.

ANTHONY ACCARDO is the illustrator of numerous books for children, including Benito’s Sopaipillas / Los sopaipillas de Benito (Piñata Books, 2007), Chiles for Benito / Chiles para Benito (Piñata Books, 2003), and César Chávez: The Struggle for Justice / César Chávez: La lucha por la justicia (Piñata Books, 2002). He lives and works in Brooklyn.

Music fans and avid readers alike have a special event to look forward to. New Mexico’s own Robert Mirabal, two-time Grammy Award Winner from Taos Pueblo, will make an appearance at Clear Light Books on Thursday, May 21st from 6-8 PM. The author will read from his first novel “RUNNING ALONE in Photographs” and play live flute music at this free event. Books and CDs will be on hand for purchase and signing.

For the past decade or so, Mirabal has dominated the Native American music scene with a fusion of musical styles best categorized as world music. He has created more than a dozen traditional flute, rock and spoken word CDs that have earned him almost every honor awarded in the genre, including two Grammy Awards for best Native American Albums of the Year (2006 and 2008). His 2001 PBS special, “Music from a Painted Cave,” remains one of public television’s most popular fundraisers of all time.

Nonetheless, using music to connect his noble purpose with his audience is only one of Mirabal’s gifts, and his new novel, “RUNNING ALONE in Photographs,” promises to open a window onto contemporary American Indian life not seen before.

Written in a style that blends memoir and historical fiction, Mirabal’s tale is set in Saint Teresa Pueblo in northern New Mexico. It is the coming-of-age story of Reyes Wind, a young musician who returns to her ancestral home for her grandmother’s funeral.

Dealing with themes of personal responsibility and empowerment, the novel focuses on worlds in transition – the struggle between tribal identity and life in modern society – and the courage and grace required to live fully in each.

Hearing the author read from the novel is a unique experience. Don’t miss it!

journeys call us to return; walking always photo by Mary MacIntyre

It matters not
if you have passed this way
or chose never to stop, rest,
or walk upon the earthen hills.

guilt does not always reside in
un-experience. guilt’s tendons grasp
essences of what did do or still
yearn to explore

life demands so much
presents enormous options
the hills wait and call
neglect lingers among discarded memories.

Yes! SO faraway
i can barely see
mounds of snow covers
rougher edges
glory and light
mingle and reach
eagle’s wings
i once flew there
adventourous
before the blizzard’s cold.
Yes! she reveals her power again to me
i am not afraid now
her glory dwells simultaneously there
and in here.

Some say, “Witches are trapped within here.”
I laugh, for they are free to roam everywhere.
Power tends to be trapped within here
bodies untended, hair frozen, power forgotten

Stand upon your ground
feet planted strong
and sway with the wind
let joints flex and muscles stretch
and voice release howling songs
how often do you feel the wind
rush through you?
how often does night sky
drink sweet nectars
ancient times with you?

I call to you to stand tall, and walk
among the mysteries
these trees share
among the wild and strong.
