End of Summer Writing

by

Everybody is thinking back to school, but you need to be thinking further ahead. The back to school articles are already written and published at this point. Take a step forward. The next major marketing events are the holidays. Halloween is minor compared to Thanksgiving and Christmas, but still a big enough event that you can write about it.

Halloween Article Ideas (take them! they’re free!)

  • Safe trick-or-treating
  • Alternatives for families who don’t want to trick-or-treat
  • How to host a fun halloween party
  • Creative frugal costumes
  • Halloween for grown-ups
  • Non-traditional ideas for Halloween
  • Halloween food and snacks

I’m not a big fan of Halloween, but it comes and goes every year whether I want it to or not. I do like candy corn… and all the other sweet sugary stuff that goes half-price the first week of November. There’s a good side to everything. The end of October leads to the beginning of November, which means Thanksgiving. I love Thanksgiving. It is the least stressful and most enjoyable holiday, to me: no gift expectations, no bad weather yet (not in my part of the world), just a couple of days with family and a lot of wonderful food.

Thanksgiving Article Ideas (take them! they’re free too!)

  • Thanksgiving meal ideas for vegetarian/vegan/special diets
  • How to simplify Thanksgiving meal
  • Hosting the Thanksgiving meal without losing your sanity
  • Thanksgiving countdown/planning help (There are always a lot of these articles, but they are always popular. Put your own spin on it and make it better than the rest.)
  • Beyond the meal: other Thanksgiving activities
  • Non-traditional Thanksgiving ideas
  • Doing good/service/reaching out on Thanksgiving
  • Crazy, fun, creative Thanksgiving ideas
  • What to do when you can’t go home for Thanksgiving
  • What to do when you don’t want to go home for Thanksgiving

I hate the little “27 Shopping Days Left” signs that appear everywhere after Thanksgiving ends. In my family, we’ve all cut down on the gift-giving that we do. We draw names for the adults and everybody buys a little something for the under-12 crowd. That’s it. It’s simple, it’s less to shop for, it’s less money, and we all enjoy it. I would much rather watch my children and my niece and nephew thrill over their gifts that work my way through a stack of presents myself. What about you? The changes and traditions that you have incorporated into your family Christmas celebrations are the makings of an article.

Christmas Article Ideas (also free! an early Christmas present!)

  • A special (different) Christmas Eve
  • Setting priorities for the Christmas season
  • Great hostess gifts you can make
  • Great hostess gifts you can buy for under $…
  • Cutting down the gift-giving madness
  • Choosing traditions for your family
  • Christmas traditions across the world
  • Christmas countdown/planning help
  • Educational gifts that young children will love
  • Giving consumable gifts
  • Maintaining a diet through Christmas
  • Maintaining your sanity through Christmas
  • Simplify your Christmas decorating
  • Make Christmas deliberate
  • A non-traditional Christmas
  • I know you can think of more ideas. Use these to get started. Remember, I didn’t even mention Hanukkah and Kwanzaa.

    Make it a good day.
