Web sites offer great tools, resources & expertise for writers
This video features one of the only live interviews with author Philip K. Dick who achieved well-deserved fame too late. Dick died in 1982, but his remarks are still timely.
Over the years I’ve accumulated hundreds of links to useful writing sites. I’ve learned about everything from digital cameras to building my own Web site. I got a great education in college, but most of what enabled me to work in the writing biz occurred after college. Here are five of my top writing Web site picks.
Angela Hoy offers writers a top resource, free of charge, in both her e-newsletter and at her Web site Writers Weekly. Freelance markets, warnings about scams and unscrupulous organizations and a very active forum are a few of the perks she provides readers. Visit her site: http://www.writersweekly.com/.
The Renegade Writer blog is the product of Linda Formichelli, whose book by the same name, co-written with Diana Burrell, serves up the equal of several courses in freelance writing. Market tips, technical questions, and any subject related to freelance writing can be found here: http://www.therenegadewriter.com/.
Terry Whalin, author of more than 60 nonfiction books, writes the blog The Writing Life. Whalin shares insight on everything from tele-Webcasts to inspiration. He’s a popular speaker at writers’ conferences. Bookmark his site: http://terrywhalin.blogspot.com/.
Steve Weber’s Plug Your Book site is an invaluable resource for both traditionally published and self-pubbed writers. Marketing via youtube.com and understanding amazon.com rankings are just two of the many topics authors will find useful. Visit Weber’s site: http://www.weberbooks.com/publish.htm.
If you’re published in national magazines and have a healthy portfolio or two traditionally published nonfiction books, the American Society of Journalists and Authors is an organization devoted to keeping you informed and helping you advance your career. There’s a public section on the site; the annual conference is also open to non-members. Visit this organization on the Web: http://www.asja.org/.
The writing business changes almost daily, courtesy of technology. Bookmark those useful sites and get inspired to write your own best-seller!
